I am often asked by my many clients, “What is the best skin care routine for my skin type?”.

Let's dig into the first thing you NEED to know about skin care!

What is medical grade skin care or over the counter skin care?

First of all, I like to start by helping clients understand the difference between medical grade skin care VS over the counter (OTC) skin care. OTC is skin care is what you get from your local drug store, pharmacy and beauty counter. It doesn't matter how expensive it is, if it's not from a professional provider, it's considered OTC. By the way, anything over $200 is crazy… If you're willing to spend that kind of cash on skin care, you're better off learning about treatments in a consultation that you can schedule with me online right here on this website.

Now let's get into what makes these two types of skin care products so different!

In a nutshell, OTC products lack medical grade quality ingredients (like active and potent vitamin C). They often also have lower concentrations of active ingredients, they're usually less stable (meaning it goes bad faster), and more often than not the product emphasis is on marketing and not research. As a result, you're not going to get the most out of your time and money with sub par products backed by marketing with empty promises. I don't know about you, but I want my skin care to actually help my skin and not cause damage! NEWSFLASH, a beauty cream isn't going to solve crows feet, frown lines, deep wrinkles, severe acne or melasma. Believe it or not, if vitamin C isn't stable it can turn into a free radical which can actually damage the skin! One of my favourite vitamin C products is the Alumier EverActive C&E.

Here's the catch.

Because it's a professional medical grade product, you need to have a consult with a professional provider first. You can do this with me in the clinic if you live in Victoria, or you can book an online appointment with me here to learn more from anywhere in the world!

In conclusion, research and an awesome formulation are the two biggest beauty science WINS. If you want your skin care to actually give you noticeable results, trust the research, and not just the empty promises on the back of the bottle!

Stay tuned because I'm doing a whole series on YouTube for tutorials on how to pick the best cleanser, serum, eye cream, moisturizer, sunscreen, scrub, and masks! I'm dishing all my knowledge since 2011 as an advanced aesthetic Registered Nurse.
